Working from home rather than your usual office workspace has recently become a necessity for employees and small business owners. Instead of sharing a presentation through physical interaction, we are pivoting to virtual face-to-face encounters over webcam, Zoom, Skype and creating pre-recorded videos to share online.
This is a great way to stay connected while working remotely. Unfortunately, one drawback is that videos can often become long and difficult to upload and share due to their file size. The solution? Splitting videos using Clipchamp Create. This step-by-step tutorial will show you how to split large videos into smaller parts in a few simple steps.

Using asynchronous communication when working remotely
Some experts think remote workers are even more productive than their office-bound coworkers. Why, you might ask? It’s found that remote workers have more time to spend with their family, friends and hobbies. They also avoid rush hour commutes and potential distractions from teammates. Instead of physically seeing their coworkers in the office everyday, they turn to emails, video chat and online chat rooms. These forms of communication do not always demand instant replies.
Asynchronous communication is an excellent remote working tool. Put simply, asynchronous communication is when you send messages without expecting an instant response from the recipient. You let them reply in their own time and give them the opportunity to think about their answers.
Using video is a great way to communicate asynchronously, sharing company-wide updates, weekly agendas or even tips and tricks for working at home. These videos do not need to have immediate interaction. Employees can view the videos at their leisure, comment and reply when it suits them. Whether your team works remotely or follows a hybrid work model, using async video can lead to thoughtful, stress-free responses and better results.

Camera
Your smartphone is a great recording device when filming videos from home. Remember to always have your phone in a landscape orientation, use a tripod so the footage is still and transfer your files directly to your laptop to maximise your phone storage space. You can use Clipchamp’s Compressor to decrease file sizes without losing visible quality as well.
Location
Make sure to always film in a quiet location within your house. Viewers need to be able to hear you clearly. If possible, choose a space with lots of natural light so you do not need to source artificial lighting. Have a simple background, nothing too distracting. How to split videos online using Clipchamp Create
Step 1. Create a Clipchamp Create account or log in
Log into your existing Clipchamp Create account or sign up for free.

Step 2. Create a new project
Select the Create a video button on the left side bar. Choose between the five different video formats and select the one best suited to your project. We recommend using widescreen 16:9 ratio if uploading to YouTube, Vimeo or a different video sharing platform.

Step 3. Add video footage
Select and click Add Media on the left side bar, then drag and drop video files or click Browse my files. Your clips will be automatically uploaded to your media library.

Step 4. Drag and drop clip onto timeline
Drag and drop your lecture onto the timeline. You can add as many clips as you’d like. If you place a clip in the wrong sequence, you can move them anytime.

Step 5. Decide where you want to split the video
Firstly, make sure the clip is selected on the timeline. Drag the seeker (white play bar) to where you want to split the video. You’ll be able to see the approximate time of the cut at the top of the timeline.
Alternatively, you can use the spacebar on your keyboard to play and pause the seeker.

Step 6. Click the split button
Once you have placed the seeker where you want it, click the Split button above the timeline. If you accidentally split the clip in the wrong place, click Undo and your clip will reattach itself.

Step 7. Delete unwanted split clips
Now your video will be split into two. If you want to delete either the earlier or later part of the video, select the unwanted half and click Delete (bin icon) above the timeline.
If you want to use the other part of the video elsewhere you can move it to a lower track in the timeline until you need to use it. Simply click and drag the section of video downwards until you see a green line appear, then let go. Now you’ll have the two parts of the video on two separate tracks.

Now you can confidently split your video!
Adding intros and outros with important information for employees
Step 1. Add an intro
At the beginning of the video you have now created, add in an intro clip and text to inform employees what the video is about. This can include the company name, date and meeting name etc.
Firstly, add a background clip to the beginning of your video. Click Background on the left side bar, then drag and drop onto the beginning of the timeline. Now, click Text and choose from the Intro/Outro list. Drag and drop your chosen intro onto the top of the background clip within the timeline.

You can also use a stock clip if you do not like a plain colour background. Select and click the Stock button on the left side bar. Either type in the Search Video search bar a theme you are looking for, or scroll through the limitless categorised folders Clipchamp offers on the Stock page. Once your stock video has been selected, click the + Add to Project button on the left corner of the video to add to your library. Drag and drop the clip to the beginning of your timeline.

Step 2. Add an outro
To wrap up your video, add an outro. This can include an inspirational quote, thank employees for watching or a funny picture or meme.
Either add a funny stock video, your own clip or a plain background. Repeat intro steps but add to the end of the video rather than the beginning. Click Text then select an outro to use. Drag and drop on the end of your video.

Add text or titles to assist communication
Add text to your video if you desire. If the audio is hard to understand in some sections of the video, add the subtitles text under Text. You might also want to add funny captions or pop up titles with key information.
