Memes have taken over social media by storm, receiving millions of views everyday. From crazy cats to an Italian man pinching salt, there’s a meme for absolutely everything. But how do you create a meme that will stand out from all the rest? Green screen memes are the answer. Content creators are now able to add their own background to a meme in our online video editor.
This blog will teach you how to create a green screen meme using Clipchamp's green screen video editor.

How to make a green screen meme
Memes are the essence of social media. They’re funny, entertaining and easy to consume. They’re also the new way of marketing, much preferred by small businesses due to their inexpensive cost.
Create a green screen meme for your small or large business and attract the attention of potential customers, or just create one for fun. The options are limitless. If you want to create a meme without a green screen, head over to our meme video tutorial.

Step 1. Create an account
To create a green screen meme, you will need to log in to your existing Clipchamp account, or sign up for free.

Step 2. Create a new video
To start creating your green screen meme, click on + Create a Video button. The editor will automatically open. You can change the aspect ratio of your video on the right sidebar. Choose between 6 different video sizes. We have chosen widescreen 16:9. You can customize your video name by clicking on the rename video button.

Step 3. Select meme footage
Firstly, head over to the Stock tab on the left sidebar. Scroll through our stock footage to find the perfect background for your green screen meme. You can search a specific key word in the search bar. Click on the green + plus symbol to add the clip to your timeline.
Next, add your green screen footage. We have chosen to use a GIF. Click on Graphics on the left sidebar. Under GIFS, search “green screen”. All the GIFs that are green screen filter compatible will appear. Click on the green + symbol again to add to your timeline.
NOTE: you can only remove the background of GIFs and video footage that has a green screen background.

Step 4. Rearrange clips
To make the green screen filter work, you will need to place your timeline clips above one another. To do this, drag and drop the green screen clip above the background clip on your timeline.
Then, cut the clip lengths and make them the same duration by sliding the right green sidebar.

Step 5. Apply green screen filter
To remove the green screen background, click on your green screen clip so its highlighted green. Click on the Filters tab, then click the Green screen filter. The green screen filter will then be applied to your clip and the green background will be removed.
NOTE: you can only remove the background of GIFs and video footage that has a green screen background.

Step 6. Save and share your new green screen GIF
To save your green screen meme, click on the purple → Export button at the top right corner of the editor. You can save your green screen meme as a MP4 video, but we have chosen to save it as a GIF. Click on the GIF tab, then click Continue.
Your green screen GIF will automatically start saving. You can save to your desktop, or choose one of our saving options. Directly upload to Box, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Pinterest.

And there you have it.
