How to screen record on Windows 10 and Windows 11

To use our online screen recorder for Windows 10, log in or sign up for free to Clipchamp's online video editor.

Note: This tutorial will explore how to use the screen recording feature, not the screen and camera recording feature.

Step 1. Click on the screen recording tool

In a new or existing video, click on the Record & create tab on the left sidebar. Click on the screen recording feature.

Step 2. Screen record your video

A popup record button will appear at the bottom left of your screen. Check your mic settings here to make sure your audio is working correctly if you’re using your microphone. To start recording your screen, click on the big red button.

A popup window will appear with screen recording options. Either record your entire screen, window, or Chrome tab.

We have selected to screen record a Chrome tab for this tutorial. Click on the tab of your choice, then click Share.

You will be brought to the Chrome tab you have selected to screen record. Your screen is now actively recording. Your audio will automatically start recording when you click Share. To stop recording your screen, click Stop sharing.

Step 3. Save your screen recording

Once you have clicked Stop sharing, you will be returned to the editor. You can now preview your screen recording with audio. If you’re unhappy with the screen-recorded video, click Retake recording. If you want to use your video, click Save and edit.

Your video will download automatically to your computer. Click on the Your media tab to find your screen recording media. The audio will be attached to the media file. Your video will automatically be added to your timeline.

Add special effects to online screen recordings

Personalize your video with the brand kit

Keep your screen recordings consistent and recognizable with the brand kit feature. Easily customize your videos with logos, color schemes, and fonts. You can even turn a logo into a video watermark by reducing the opacity.

Trim your screen recording video clips

If you have accidentally made your screen recording too long or want to cut out unwanted sections of your video, just use the trimming tool. Drag in and out the clip's green sidebars on the timeline, and use the scissors icon to cut your clip or the freehand cropping tool.

Resize your screen recording for any platform

Want to upload your screen recording to multiple platforms? Choose from 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 2:3, and 21:9 aspect ratios and resize your video for free.

Add text and titles to your screen recording

If you’re sharing your screen recording on YouTube or a learning portal, start and finish your video with a ready-to-use intro or outro template. Also, add text boxes for captions and subtitles using various titles, colors, and fonts.
