What is a YouTube Outro Video?

A YouTube Outro Video appears like an end screen for your YouTube video. It is usually a 5 - 20 second separate video that creators place at the end of their YouTube video. The outro usually contains several different calls to action, including:

  1. Clickable links: point viewers to other videos, playlists or channels on YouTube,

  2. Subscriptions: remind viewers to subscribe to your channel,

  3. Thank You notes: show appreciation to your viewers for watching and supporting your channel,

  4. Promotions: website, merchandise and crowdfunding campaigns,

  5. Social handles: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter etc. usernames.

Creators can use up to four elements in their end screen at once. Below are a few of our favourite YouTubers who have made great use of outro videos:

What is a YouTube End Card?

YouTube End Cards are an incredibly powerful tool for increasing channel views, engagement and adding more value to your audience at the end of each video. Unlike outro videos, an end card is not a separate clip added to the end of your videos.

An end card is overlaid on top of your existing video 5 - 20 seconds before it’s finished playing. YouTube end cards do however include all the same information as a YouTube outro video.

Which is Better For Your Channel: YouTube Outro Video or YouTube End Card?

When we compare YouTube outro videos and end cards, there isn’t a massive difference between the two. They both add value to your videos, generate viewer traffic and increase engagement.

Outro videos and end cards both help creators YouTube rankings increase by giving the option for viewers to click suggested videos. Which one best suits your channel or brand?

If you’re looking to add a little more creativity, style and branding to your YouTube videos, we recommend using outro videos instead of end cards. YouTube outro videos give creators more freedom when it comes to creativity and adding their own flare.

Outro videos can be made however you like, with personalised motion titles, colour schemes, and animation giving creators a chance to further express their branding and leave a lasting impression. On the other hand, end cards are more time efficient, as they take less time to add onto your video.
