Every year, fewer and fewer people send traditional paper holiday cards. The time consuming and expensive process is becoming a thing of the past. If you too have given up on addressing all those cards by hand, one by one, or simply just given up altogether...we have a great alternative for you! Create a video holiday card this year to share with your family, friends, and colleagues using one of Clipchamp's ready to use templates. It will probably take less time than finding a pen, stamps and sealing those envelopes. Learn how to create an on-brand video holiday card in minutes with this step by step tutorial.

How to create video holiday cards

Ditch the old school pen and paper. Create a modern, environmentally friendly video holiday card! Use your desktop, laptop or smartphone device. We will be using an already made Clipchamp template in this tutorial displayed on the desktop Clipchamp video editor. You are welcome to use any of our easy video templates from our template library. 

Step 1. Log into Clipchamp Create or sign up for free

To start creating your holiday video card, log into Clipchamp or sign up today for free! Once logged in, you will be brought to the Clipchamp Create home page.

Step 2. Start with a template

Click on our Holiday Video Cards template collection and select the template you would like to use. Click Use This Template button and the editor will automatically open. Make sure to rename your video initiation at the top of the editor. We have other templates collections such as this one.

Step 3. Personalize text

Now it’s time to make this holiday video card your own! This template is specifically designed for saying Happy Holidays and Thank you to staff members for all their hard work this year. You can edit the text within this to say anything you’d like. Thank your friends, family, colleagues or students. It’s up to you! To edit the text, click on the text box on the timeline so it’s highlighted green, then click text. Highlight the unwanted text and type in your desired speech. Repeat this process for all text boxes you wish to change.

If you want to make your text bigger or smaller, click Transform and move the white circle cursor back and forth to shrink or enlarge the text. You can also change the colour of the text by clicking Colours and choosing from the colour pallet.

Step 4. Keep or change stock footage

We have carefully selected all the clips within this template to create the best holiday video card for your staff, but if you are not liking any clips within the template don’t stress. Video footage can be easily changed either with your own personal footage or our stock footage.

For more stock footage, click Media, then select your desired clip. Click the + add button to add the clip into your media library. Click Close when finished to return to the editor.

Select the clip you would like to delete from your video. When selected, there is a green box around the clip. Click the trash can symbol to delete or click delete on your keyboard to remove the clip from your timeline. Drag and drop your new clip onto the timeline in the same place as the deleted clip. Your new clip may not be in the same ratio. Click Transform than Crop to fill so the black border disappears. When deleting clips, your transitions will also automatically delete. To add those back in, click Transition, then drag and drop a transition onto the timeline in the green + box. The transition will snap into place. 

If you do not wish to change any video footage within this template, skip this step.

Step 5. Edit background music

Background music is important to set the mood within your Holiday video card. If the selected audio isn’t what you’re vibing, simply delete it and add in another stock or personal tune. Click Stock, then Audio. Scroll through our stock audio or search a specific name to find the tune you are after. Click the + Add button to download the audio to your media library. Click Close to return to the editor. Click the song on your timeline that you want to delete so it’s highlighted green. Click Trash can symbol to delete. Drag and drop your new music onto the timeline. Make sure your song is the same length as your video by dragging the left and right green side bars. 

Don’t forget to fade out your music! Click Fade then Fade Out, and drag the circle cursor to your desired fade out time.

Step 6. Save your Holiday video card

Once your Holiday video card is fully edited and you are happy with the end result, it’s time to save. Export your video by clicking the purple Export button in the top right hand corner of the editor screen. A pull out window will appear with saving options. We recommend saving your Holiday video card in 720p resolution for best sending quality, as well as clicking maximum compression. Click Continue to save.

Your video is now ready to share with your staff members and wish them happy holidays! You can directly save your video to your phone, laptop or desktop, or share directly to social media. We have chosen to email our Holiday video card. You can send a group email or singly.
